1. Insoluble Fiber

6. Inulin
Inulin is one of the best-known prebiotic fibers and is especially effective at feeding beneficial bacteria that support digestive health. As these microbes ferment inulin, they produce compounds that help maintain the health of the intestinal lining while supporting a balanced gut microbiome.

How Much Fiber Do You Actually Need?
Most adults would benefit from eating more fiber than they currently do. Current recommendations suggest that women consume about 25 grams of fiber per day, while men should aim for about 38 grams per day. After age 50, those recommendations decrease slightly as calorie needs generally decline.
Unfortunately, the average adult consumes only about 15 grams of fiber each day, meaning many people fall well short of the recommended intake.
